And this thought made him want Sheridan more. He knew from the first time he’d seen her that she didn’t seem like the type of woman to play games. But she’d claimed she wanted space. Yet, he’d just found out she was dating someone else all along.

Despite his reservations, he couldn’t help himself. Lucas left his office and headed to the Ritz Carlton.

He wanted to see his competition. For the first time in the longest time, Lucas felt insecure. Obviously the man had more intentions toward Sheridan than friendship, and Lucas hoped the buck stopped at lunch. It was quite easy for glasses of wine to put someone in the mood.

He got there quickly by driving over the speed limit.

The hostess tried to usher Lucas toward a table, but he indicated he was meeting someone. It didn’t take long for Lucas to spot Sheridan. She sat next to an African American gentleman. He was handsome, with a goatee and sharp features. He looked like a man used to a comfortable lifestyle. Sheridan looked beautiful, as always, with her hair swept off her gorgeous face.

She looked tense. A gold chain hung from the man’s neck, and Lucas noticed the matching gold watch and gold ring. Perhaps he’d been staring at the two for too long, because the man turned his way as if he’d sensed he was being observed. They made eye contact, and Sheridan turned toward what had gained her companion’s attention. Sheridan’s eyes opened wide when she saw Lucas. She began to get up from her seat. The man touched her arm and spoke to her. Lucas didn’t wait for Sheridan to make her move. It was time for him to go.

It was painful seeing Sheridan with someone else. At first Lucas didn’t know why. After all, they hadn’t been seeing each other for that long. But he couldn’t deny his angst.

He had fallen in love with her.
